Muddy Bugs Outdoors provides transformative outdoor experiences that cultivate a love for nature and a sense of adventure. Our programs are designed to challenge participants while imparting essential skills in bushcraft, survival, and environmental awareness. With a focus on community and personal growth, we aim to inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
I am an an avid hill walker, hiker, trekker, wild camper, clay shooter and hunter. I have previously held positions in the youth and volunteering sector both as a Sea Cadet Corps Instructor and a Martial Arts Instructor for a local Martial Arts School.
I am a Mountain Training England qualified Lowlands Leader and Camping Leader and I am Mountain Leader trained . I am also a Duke of Edinburgh Accredited Supervisor and Assessor. I hold a Level 3 Forest School Leader certificate as well as the NCFE Level 2 qualification for bushcraft instruction. I am LANTRA and UK Rural Skills certified and registered PDS1 Proficient Deer Stalker and Air Rifle Instructor. I also hold a number of outdoor and wilderness qualifications including: - The Institute of Outdoor Learning Approved 16 hour Remote Wilderness Emergency First Aid Certificate, EFAW + F (Forestry Commission) First Aid Certificate and Level 3 Paediatric Emergency First Aid Certificate.
I am a member of the British Mountaineering Council, Mountain Training England and I am fully DBS checked at enhanced level in addition to being the Designated Safeguarding Lead, qualified at Level 3.
I enjoy Geocaching and am credited with over 1100 finds so far. I have trekked across many varied terrains in England (Peak District, Lake District, North and South Downs), Wales (Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire) and Scotland. I consider myself a true outdoorsman with a passion for both learning and teaching.
Before MBO, Ed was a Consultant Engineer in the Vertical Transportation industry and a former apprentice of the Port of London Authority. He started Muddy Bugs Outdoors as a way to change careers, break into the outdoors industry and live his passion for the outdoors everyday. Ed has been a freelance DofE Leader for Ben Bullen Adventures and School of Outdoors.
In addition to Ed, we have a host of fully trained and qualified freelance instructors to assist us on expeditions.
Ed also created the Mindful Miles walking group which promotes men's mental health.
